Eval 3 project selected for European Research Conference
A sysmposium from the Eval 3 project on the evaluation of e-learning has been selected for presentation at the European Conference on Educational Research in Crete in September. Click on 'read more' to get the details.
There will be four papers presented at the event:1. Paper 1 - The evaluation of e-learning – what can we learn from the existing literature and research.
Presenter – Wilfried Rubens – University of Utrecht, Netherlands
The Leonardo Eval3 project undertook an initial analysis of web-based literature of American, European and Australian e-learning evaluation reports in English, French and German.
This paper will report on the outcome of that work and will draw out lessons for research and practice in the evaluation of e-learning
2. Paper 2 – New models for the evaluation of e-learning
Presenter – Friederich Schuermann, - Zukunfsforschunginstitut, Austria
Present models for the evaluation of e-learning suffer from being over simplistic and from – consciously or unconsciously – editing out many of the variables. Many of the models either focus on the technology or rely on ethnographic studies of student satisfaction.
The Leonardo Eval3 project took as its starting point existing models of evaluation and examined their fitness for purpose and utility for the evaluation of e-learning.
Following this the project partners developed four new models and tested them in practice.
This paper will report on the different models and their use.
3. Researching complexity – what are the variables in evaluating e-learning
Presenter – Brian Dillon, Nexus, Ireland
The Leonardo Eval3 project developed a new taxonomy for evaluating e-learning.
To test the taxonomy each partner designed a mini-research project looking at two or more of the variables.
The studies were undertaken in five European countries and involved both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
This paper will report on the outcomes of those studies and the validity of the taxonomy.
4. New tools and instruments for the evaluation of e-learning
Presenter –Jenny Hughes, CRED, UK
This paper reviews some of the earlier tools and instruments that were available for the evaluation of e-learning and discusses their limitations and operational problems and the gap in the market which was the genesis of the Eval 3 project.
The discussant is Lars Heinemann, ITB, University of Bremen, Germany
