EVAL 4: TESTSCAN

Up one level
The eval-4 TESTSCAN Project, funded by Leonardo da Vinci from 2004, will be doing practical testing of evaluation tools developed in previous eval projects in a range of countries and contexts.

Innovative evaluation tools have been developed during the E-VAL 2 and CERN projects. Three of these were designed to:

MENTOR
Assist VET practitioners and programme managers in the process of developing evaluation methodologies and procedures that are appropriate within their own circumstances and operational environments. (this is the form of a computer-based Wizard that takes the user through a series of decisions relating to their evaluation choices: the MENTOR tool).
SPEAK
Enable a range of stakeholders in the VET process to engage in ongoing self-evaluation – in a way that links evaluation findings to programme planning, allows impact findings to be interpreted within the broader policy environment; and enables networking between VET projects – based on evaluation findings - to take place (this is in the form of a user-friendly web-based model: the SPEAK model).
LudoValuate
Create open and interactive space for the improvement of evaluation expertise amongst evaluators of VET programmes and projects – with a particular emphasis on structured peer learning and simulation of real evaluation challenges and tasks. (this is in the form of an evaluation board game for use in one-day training sessions: ‘LudoValuate’)

The TESTSCAN project will facilitate the testing of all these tools in a variety of settings: taking into account differences in evaluation cultures as well as general VET systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on the active participation of stakeholders (trainers, educators, participants and policy-makers) in applying methods, and in providing feedback. Partners are chosen on the basis of their existing connection with stakeholders and different learning environments.
