Exercise – The Driving Test

Group work: Using the Driving Test as an example, comment on how it would perform against the criteria above.

Reliability: Test supervisors are trained and the format of the test is such that the result should be the same irrespective of which test supervisor is undertaking it.

The test could be taken in different cars in different weather conditions and produce the same results.

Validity: The driving test involves being tested whilst actually driving a car.  If the test is passed whilst driving one type of car, we can predict that the driver is able to drive other types of car.

Credibility: The test has been tried and tested many times.  Including the written test has increased its credibility.

Accountability: The accountability is high.  It involves testing by highly trained examiners.

Replicability: The test is taken many times each day by different drivers.

Usability: Could be improved – there is a long waiting list

Acceptability: The Driving License is accepted in many places.

Transferability: Can be transferred to a motorbike license.  Advanced tests and specific categories such as HGV can be added on.
